DHAKA, May 17, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is doing well now following his eye surgery in a hospital in Bangkok.

"My father is fine now...It will take several more days for his complete recovery," daughter of the veteran BNP leader Dr. Shamaruh Mirza told BSS over phone today.

She said as per advice of the physicians Fakhrul is in full rest.

Asked about Fakhrul's return to the country, she said, "Whenever his physicians consider him risk-free, we will decide on his return to Bangladesh.

I and my mother (Rahat Ara Begum) are by my father's side all the time”.

Dr Shamaruh Mirza, who is living in Australia with her spouse, requested the countrymen to pray for her father’s speedy recovery.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir underwent a successful surgery on his left eye at Bangkok's Rutnin Eye Hospital on May 14.

Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Member Prof. Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain said BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman are constantly monitoring the BNP Secretary General's medical condition.
