JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, May 17, 2025 (BSS) - Inclusive Jahangirnagar, a Jahangirnagar University-based platform for physically challenged students, was launched today.

Marking the founding day, a friendly cricket match between the visually impaired students of Dhaka University (DU) and Jahangirnagar University (JU) commenced around 12:00 pm at the central playground of the university. The JU team emerged victorious, defeating DU by 55 runs.

JU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Sohel Ahmed was present at the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest.

Speaking at the event, Professor Sohel Ahmed said, "We, as part of the university administration, act not only as teachers or administrators but also as guardians to our physically challenged students. Our presence here today signifies our commitment to ensuring they do not feel deprived or excluded."

He further noted that the university has already formed a committee to draft policies that will improve accessibility and ensure the full inclusion of physically challenged students in education and research.

"We are optimistic about creating a comprehensive plan to ease their challenges and fully integrate them into the academic community," he added.

Nazim Hossain, the founding president of Inclusive Jahangirnagar, emphasized the platform's vision, stating, "Our mission is to support physically challenged students in academic, sporting and cultural arenas."

As an advocacy group, we aim to assist the administration in identifying policy and infrastructure-related gaps, helping make JU a more inclusive and accessible institution, he added.
