EU urges all to engage constructively to lead democratic Bangladesh

DHAKA, June 6, 2025 (BSS) – The European Union (EU) Delegation in Bangladesh today called on all stakeholders to engage constructively in this process as Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus has announced a timeline leading to elections.

“The Chief Adviser has announced a timeline leading to elections. The EU has consistently supported Bangladesh's political transition, calling for it to be underpinned by the rule of law, fundamental rights and lead to democratic elections,” EU said in its verified facebook page after the chief adviser address to the nation on the eve of the Eid-ul-Azha.

The European Union termed it as a pivotal moment for Bangladesh.

“The EU Delegation calls on all stakeholders to engage constructively in this process, and to take forward work to define an ambitious reform agenda that will lead to a more stable, more prosperous and democratic Bangladesh,” read the statement.  

Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus today announced that the next national elections will be held on any day in the first half of April 2026.
