Dhaka, June 13, 2025 (BSS) –  The National Citizen Party (NCP) has said that the discussions and talks on national elections should only be finalized after the declaration of the July Charter, effective implementation of the  July Charter , and a  clear roadmap for justice and fundamental reforms

It also has stressed the urgent need for consensus among political parties on issues of national unity, independence, sovereignty, and state reform before election.

In a press release signed by party’s Joint Office Secretary Saleh Uddin Sifat, the NCP expressed its views on the current political dialogue and the path to the upcoming national election.

In the statement, it stated that the final discussion on the election should only take place after the formulation of the July Declaration, implementation of the July Charter, and announcement of a clear roadmap for justice. 

However, the party welcomed the interim government's initiative to engage with various political parties in discussion on state structure reform and viewed this as a positive development.

Referring to the recent meeting in London between the Chief Adviser of the interim government Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Tarique Rahman, the NCP said through the discussion the government has been able to bring the BNP in confidence about the electoral process. 

However, the party expressed disappointment that the issues of justice and reform did not get sufficient importance in the talks, comparing to the focus on election dates.

In the statement, NCP also expressed concern that the government's focus appeared to be disproportionately skewed toward accommodating a single party’s position on the election date while neglecting the broader expectations of mass people.

The statement added that holding the parliamentary election without finalizing the July Declaration, implementing the July Charter, and outlining a clear justice roadmap would reduce the uprising to a mere transfer of power and suppress public aspirations for rebuilding the state.

“Announcing an election date before preparing and implementing the July Charter would not be acceptable to the people,” the NCP said. 

The NCP urged the government to initiate a collective effort to reach consensus on reform issues with political parties, draft and implement the July Charter, and thus appropriately honor the upcoming July.
