DHAKA, June 23, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today set July 7 for holding
a hearing on a rule that challenged the legality of administering oath of
office to the President by the National Parliament Speaker.

A High Court division bench of Justice Sashanka Shekhar Sarkar and Justice K
M Zahid Sarwar set the date today.

Senior advocate Omar Faruk was present for a writ petition filed in this
connection while Deputy Attorney General Mehedi Hasan stood for the state.

The High Court on March 11 issued the rule asking authorities concerned to
explain why the provision for the speaker to administer the oath to the
president, shall not be declared illegal. It also wanted to know why the
provision, which was included in the constitution through the 15th amendment,
shall not be declared contrary to the constitution of the 1972.

A High Court division bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed
Enayet Hossain passed the order after holding hearing on the writ petition.

The court asked the law secretary, cabinet secretary and Supreme Court
registrar general to reply to the rule as respondents within eight weeks.
