OBE curriculum essential to improve higher education's quality: BRUR VC

RANGPUR, June 23, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya 
University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali has said formulation 
of Outcome Based Education (OBE) curriculum is essential to improve the 
quality of higher education.
 
"After the recent adoption of the globally recognized OBE methodology by 
local universities, the country's education system is becoming more in line 
with international standards improving the quality of higher education," he 
said. 
 
The VC said this while addressing a workshop titled "Outcome-Based Education: 
A Pathway to Accreditation" organised by the Institutional Quality Assurance 
Cell (IQAC) of BRUR at the Department of Management Information Systems on 
Monday as the chief guest. 
 
IQAC Director Prof Dr Md Tajul Islam presided over the event participated by 
teachers from various departments of the university. 
 
IQAC Additional Directors Dr Md Abdul Latif and Dr Md Abdur Rakib attended 
the workshop. 
 
Prof Dr ABM Rahamatullah of the Department of Economics of American 
International University, Bangladesh presented the keynote paper highlighting 
the background, goals, objectives and prospects of Outcome Based Education.
 
Dr Showkat Ali said the OBE is a student-centered method, where students 
actively participate in the learning process. Students always want to learn 
something new from teachers. For this, teachers need to be updated with the 
students. 
 
"Outcome Based Education is a systematic trend. The implementation of the OBE 
curriculum is essential for educational institutions for achieving 
accreditation, ensuring the quality of their programmes and becoming 
internationally recognized," he said. 
 
The Vice-chancellor expressed hope that the OBE curriculum will be 
implemented in Begum Rokeya University very soon.
