Adequate security for safe Rath Yatra planned: DMP Commissioner

DHAKA, June 24, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has said they will take adequate security measures to ensure peaceful celebration of the ‘Rath Yatra’ and ‘Ulta Rath Yatra’ on June 27 and July 5.  
       
“Adequate security measures will be taken by the DMP to celebrate the Rath Yatra smoothly, beautifully and safely,” he said while presiding over a coordination meeting at the conference room of DMP Headquarters on Monday.
 
The meeting discussed the steps and instructions taken by DMP on the occasion of the Rath Yatra on June 27 and the Ulta (reverse) Rath Yatra on July 5.

The DMP chief said that the Rath Yatra of Dhaka metropolis is a big procession and asked everyone to be extremely alert and aware during the Rath Yatra procession.  

Requesting the leaders of the Rath Yatra celebration committee to start and end the Rath Yatra at the specified time, the DMP Commissioner said, “We provide flawless security for all religious events. I hope that with the joint efforts of everyone, we will be able to complete this event beautifully.”

Sufficient police personnel including picket party, patrol party, CCTV camera, foot patrol, rooftop party, mobile patrol, DB team, plainclothes detective team, SWAT team, bomb disposal team and traffic police will be deployed during the Rath Yatra.

In addition, it is requested to refrain from playing loudspeakers during prayers and azan, to recruit their own volunteers, not to participate in the Rath Yatra with bags and packages, and to inform the police if one sees any suspicious person or object.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the overall security plan through a power point presentation in the coordination meeting. 

In addition, senior officers of DMP, representatives of various organizations and leaders of the Rath Yatra Celebration Committee provided their opinions.

DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S. N. Md. Nazrul Islam,  Additional Police Commissioner (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali, Additional Police Commissioner (CTTC) Md. Masud Karim, joint police commissioners, deputy police commissioners and officers of various ranks and representatives of DGFI, NSI, SB, South City Corporation, Fire Service and leaders of the Rath Yatra Celebration Committee were present in the coordination meeting.
