Army warns against mob violence, arrest one

DHAKA, June 25, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Army has arrested one person for his involvement with the mob-violence in front of the residence of former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) K M Nurul Huda on June 22 last.

The arrested person was identified as Md. Hanif and he was handed over to police after his arrest on June 23, an ISPR press release today said.

“Bangladesh Army is committed to protecting law and order and it will continue all necessary action to check any repetition of mob-violence in the country,” the release said.

Pointing out the incident of mob violence in front of former CEC Nurul Huda’s residence at House 29, Road 1/A or Uttara Sector-5, the ISPR said 6/7 persons encircled Nurul Huda around 7 pm on that day. In broad day light they physically tortured him, forced him to wear a garland made of shoes and transmitted the event live on the Facebook in front of police.

The ISPR release said, since a lawsuit was filed against the former CEC, it was informed to Uttara Paschim police station at 7.20 pm. Despite police appeared on the scene, the incident of harassment of Nurul Huda was happened in their presence. 

Later, police brought the situation under control and handed over the former CEC to the custody of Detective Branch (DB) of police.


The ISPR release said, the army launched the drive against the perpetrators of mob-violence as the incident came to the knowledge of the concerned army camp. In continuation of the drive the army arrested one person named Md. Hanif on charge of his involvement with the violence.

The arrested person was handed over to police and drive is going on to identify the others involved with the incident and arrest them, the ISPR said.
