DHAKA, Aug 12, 2025 (BSS) - The National Fisheries Week 2025 will be observed across the country from August 18, with the aim of enhancing fisheries resources, ensuring sustainable development, and raising public awareness about conservation.

This year's theme is "Building Sanctuaries Makes the Country Rich with Local Fish."

The inaugural ceremony will take place at 10am on August 18 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center (BCFCC).

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus will attend the ceremony as the chief guest, while Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter will preside over the event.

At the inaugural function, 16 individuals and organizations will receive the 'Matshya Padak-2025' in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the fisheries sector. The awards include gold, silver and bronze medals for first, second and third prizes, respectively.

This year's observance also includes a special tribute to the martyrs and injured of the 2024 July Uprising.

To mark the occasion, a series of events will be held nationwide throughout the week, including rallies, seminars, technology exhibitions, discussions, cultural events, and documentary screenings.

At the district and upazila levels, additional activities such as prize distribution to successful fisheries entrepreneurs, fish release events, workshops, safe aquaculture campaigns, quiz and drawing competitions, and sports programs with local fishermen will take place to engage communities across the country.
