Nazrul a brave image of anti-hegemony: Anwar Ullah

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS)- Former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, eminent educationist Professor Dr Anwar Ullah Chowdhury has said poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was a courageous image of anti-hegemonic movement.

“Nazrul is our inspiration indeed, who comes to us again and again as a timeless inspiration,” he told a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club here today, 

He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Jatiyabadi Sangskritik  Dal on the occasion of the 49th death anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

BNP Chairperson's Adviser Dr Sukamal Barua, senior journalist Mostafa Kamal Majumder, cultural personality Rezabuddaula Chowdhury, playwright Babul Ahmed, poet Mahmudul Hasan Nizami, writer Kalam Faizi, Syed Mozammel Hossain Shahin, Anwar Chowdhury, Alhaj Hashem Chowdhury, Engr Shoaib Qureshi spoke, among others, on the occasion.

“It is our misfortune as a nation that we could not give due prominence to the national poet,” Prof Chowdhury said.

He said Nazrul's poems and songs enthusiastically encouraged the revolutionaries of Bengal during anti-British movement.

Subsequently his songs similarly stirred up against the oppression and injustice of the then Pakistani regime, he said adding that his songs will always remain as inspire to us.
