RU becomes cashless campus

RAJSHAHI, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) - Rajshahi University (RU) has become a cashless campus in the country, marking a significant step towards building a Digital Bangladesh.

RU Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Muhammad Mayeen Uddin inaugurated the initiative at the Senate Building on Thursday as the chief guest.

The programme is being implemented jointly by Islami Bank Bangladesh (IBB) and MasterCard, under the 'Cashless Bangladesh' initiative of Bangladesh Bank (BB).

IBB Managing Director Omar Faruque Khan, Additional MD Jamal Uddin Mazumder, and BB Director Rathin Kumar Paul, among others, were present.

Prof Mayeen Uddin said cashless transactions help ensure transparency, reduce corruption, and promote secure financial services. He added that Bangladesh is progressing in digital payments through mobile banking, internet banking, QR codes, and digital wallets.

Omar Faruque Khan emphasized the need to raise public awareness and expand digital banking services to rural areas, saying that a cashless economy boosts revenue generation and accelerates economic growth.
