GYEONGJU, South Korea, Oct 31, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Chinese President Xi Jinping held on Friday his first formal talks with Japan's new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the APEC summit in South Korea, Chinese and Japanese media reported.

Seen as a China hawk, Takaichi is a regular visitor to the flashpoint Yasukuni shrine honouring Japan's war dead, although recently she has toned down her remarks.
