RANGPUR, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) - Various departments, offices and students presented floral greetings to Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali today marking his one year of fruitfully performing duties.
They arrived at the VCs Office and congratulated him with flowers.
Earlier on September 18, 2024, Professor Showkat Ali of the Department of Applied Mathematics of University of Dhaka assumed responsibility as the sixth Vice -chancellor of BRUR.
To make the day memorable, the VC cut a cake on this anniversary day along with the teachers, officials and employees.
From the first day of his duties as the VC, he took various initiatives to advance the university academically and administratively.
He brought students back to the classroom and activated their academic activities and quickly started class examinations on the campus, which was closed for a long time due to the July 2024 movement.
The VC took effective steps to resolve the session jams and took initiatives for changes, development and modernization in every academic and administrative aspect of the university.
Notable among the various administrative and academic activities undertaken in the past one year include cooperation in the government initiative and investigation in the trial of the murder of martyr Abu Sayeed.
Legal action including cases taken by the university against those involved in the attacks and murders on students, various initiatives including a book fair in memory of Abu Sayeed, sports competitions, and establishment of security and discipline on the campus.
Provision of proper medical care for the injured July fighters, giving Deans and Merit Awards and priority to students, modern curriculum, research development and publications were introduced.
Students have been involved in sports and creative activities for their physical and mental development, and various types of sports competitions have been organized.
Initiatives have been taken to organize the first convocation of BRUR, preparations have been made to incorporate it into the law and organize elections to form the central student parliament of the university for the first time.
The work on the Academic Master Plan is underway and is expected to be finalized next month.
An allocation of Taka 3.91 crore has been received for the preliminary work (feasibility study) of the Academic Master Plan and Engineering Master Plan to bring in an allocation of more than Taka 1,000 crore.
Marking the one-year anniversary, the Vice-chancellor presented a speech at a press conference in the conference room of the university's administrative building in the afternoon among journalists from various media outlets.
