Prof Zafrul, Prof Asaduzzaman new president, GS of JUAAB executive committee

DHAKA, Sept 19, 2025 (BSS) – The election of the 21-member Executive Committee of the Japanese Universities Alumni Association in Bangladesh (JUAAB) for the 2025–2027 term was successfully held today at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) auditorium in the city’s Farmgate area.

The election took place in a peaceful and orderly manner with participation from 413 voters representing various public and private universities, research institutions, medical and dental universities and government and non-government organizations across the country, according to a press release, received here today.

The voting was conducted in two sessions—from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

In the election, Dr. A.T.M. Zafrul Azam and Dr. Mohammed Asaduzzaman Sarker-led panel secured a full victory and will serve as the new Executive Committee for the next two years.


Following are the newly elected members of the JUAAB Executive Committee:
President – Dr. A.T.M. Zafrul Azam, Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, University of Dhaka, Senior Vice-President – Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Khan, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Jahangirnagar University, Vice-President-1 – Dr. M. Abdul Karim, Professor (Retd.), Ex-Dean, Gazipur Agricultural University, Vice-President-2 – Dr. Yearul Kabir, Professor (Retd.), University of Dhaka and General Secretary – Dr. Mohammed Asaduzzaman Sarker, Professor, Department of Agricultural Extension Education and Director, IQAC, Bangladesh Agricultural University.

It also included Treasurer – Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Professor and Dean, School of Pharmacy, University of Asia Pacific, Joint Secretary-1 – Dr. Md. Taufiqul Islam, Professor, Department of Political Science, North South University, Joint Secretary-2 – Dr. Mohd. Muzibur Rahman, Professor, Department of Statistics and Data Science, Jahangirnagar University, Research and Publication Secretary – Dr. Mohammad Matiur Rahman, Professor, Department of Fisheries Biology and Genetics, Bangladesh Agricultural University , Cultural Secretary – Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman Sarker, Professor, Department of Agricultural Statistics, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Social Welfare Secretary – Dr. Farzana Ashrafi Nila, Professor, Department of Botany, Rajshahi University and Office Secretary – Dr. Dilruba Sharmin, Project Coordinator, CABI International, BARC Complex, Dhaka.

The newly elected office bearers expressed their commitment to strengthening academic and professional ties among Bangladeshi alumni of Japanese universities and to promoting collaboration between Bangladesh and Japan in education, research and development.
