Seminar on climate security, energy resilience ends

DHAKA, Sept 23, 2025 (BSS) – A seminar on climate security and energy resilience concluded here today.

Australian Defence Force and Bangladesh Armed Forces jointly organized the seminar as part of the first phase of the Indo-Pacific Endeavour (IPE)- 2025 at Bangladesh Air Force Base Bir Uttam AK Khandaker at Kurmitola in the city.

The main objective of the seminar was to take integrated steps to address climate change risks in the defense and security sectors along with determination of sustainable strategies in energy management. 

Assistant Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan was present at the event as the chief guest, said an ISPR press release here.

Terming climate change as one of the biggest security threats in today’s world, he said, “Climate change and energy crisis are not only posing threat to our environment rather it also emerges as a major concern in national and regional security.”

In this context, he said the Bangladesh Air Force is working relentlessly to address these challenges by ensuring modern technology, sustainable aviation fuel and energy resilience.

Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle mentioned that such activities are crucial in enhancing peace, stability and security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

“Defense cooperation between Australia and Bangladesh is deepening day by day. Such a seminar on climate security and energy resilience will give a new impetus to the partnership between the two countries,” she said.

Air Commander of Bangladesh Air Force Base Bir Uttam AK Khandaker, senior officers of the armed forces and students from various universities also attended.

In the technical sessions of the seminar, experts discussed the impact of climate change, use of environment-friendly fuels in military operations.

They also discussed about possibility of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the defense sector, introducing technological innovation, increasing energy efficiency and importance of international cooperation.

Speakers also said that the defense sector must work in a coordinated manner to address the risks arising by the climate change and prioritize the use of renewable energy.

Participants presented new ideas and effective strategies to increase energy resilience in the military and civil aviation sectors. 

Bangladesh Air Force not only reaffirmed its commitment but also enhanced its capability to meet future challenges through regional cooperation.

Bangladesh Air Force is also committed for adoption of innovative technologies and adherence to global standards, the ISPR release added.
