DHAKA, Oct 17, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh and China have celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with a grand reception in Beijing, marking five decades of friendship, mutual trust, and strategic cooperation between the two nations.
The colourful event, hosted by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Beijing in collaboration with the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) on Tuesday, was attended by senior Chinese officials, diplomats, academicians, business leaders, and members of the expatriate Bangladeshi community, according to a message received here today.
Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), Luo Sang Jiangcun, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Other distinguished guests included Lu Xiangdong, Vice President of CPAFFC; Liu Bin, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Major General Zhang Baochun, Deputy Director of the Office for International Military Cooperation under the Central Military Commission.
Bangladesh Ambassador to China Md Nazmul Islam of Bangladesh delivered the welcome address, highlighting the long-standing bilateral relations and cooperation between Dhaka and Beijing across multiple sectors.
He said Bangladesh's friendship with China is built on trust, respect, and shared aspirations, adding that as the two nations celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, Bangladesh looks forward to further deepening their
strategic cooperation in the decades ahead.
In his remarks, CPAFFC Vice President Lu Xiangdong underscored the importance
of enhancing mutual confidence, strengthening people-to-people contact, and
expanding cultural exchanges to further consolidate Bangladesh-China ties.
The event featured the unveiling of a commemorative postal envelope marking 50 years of diplomatic relations and a cake-cutting ceremony symbolizing friendship between the two peoples.
A special publication by the Bangladesh Embassy was also launched, focusing on Bangladesh's economic potential, cultural diversity, and tourism prospects.
As part of the Embassy's year-long recognition program, three eminent Chinese citizens, one former Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh, and two institutions were honoured for their contributions to strengthening bilateral ties.
Earlier in April, four former Chinese ambassadors and a leading media organization received similar recognition during the Independence and National Day reception.
Guests enjoyed video presentations on Bangladesh's tourism, investment opportunities, and cultural heritage.
Exhibition stalls displayed Bangladeshi handicrafts, textiles, and traditional attire, as well as replicas of key development projects implemented with Chinese cooperation. Souvenir jute bags, magazines, and tourism booklets were distributed among the attendees.
