Armed Forces Day celebrated

DHAKA, Nov 21, 2025 (BSS) - The Armed Forces Day was celebrated today through various programmes amid festivity and enthusiasm.

Marking the day, special prayers were offered at mosques of all cantonments, naval bases and establishments and air force bases after the Fajr prayers seeking welfare and prosperity of the country, continuous progress of the armed forces, and salvation of the soul of the martyred members of the armed forces who sacrificed themselves in the war of independence, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) release.

Paying rich tributes to the memory of martyred members of the armed forces who sacrificed their lives in the Great War of Independence in 1971, President Mohammed Shahabuddin, also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Division (AFD), and Chief Adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus placed wreaths at the Shikha Anirban of Dhaka Cantonment in the morning.

At that time, a smart group of the armed forces provided the guard of honour and a mournful tune was played on the bugle in memory of the martyrs.

After placing the President and the Chief Adviser signed the visitor book.

On their arrival at Shikha Anirban, chiefs of three services and the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division welcomed the President and the Chief Adviser. 

In memory of members of the armed forces who were martyred in the Liberation War, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hasan and Chief of the Air Force Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan jointly laid wreaths at Shikha Anirban on behalf of their respective forces.

After laying wreaths, the Chief Adviser entered into Armed Forces Division, where PSO Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hasan and Directors General.
 
The Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff and the Chief of Air Force paid a courtesy call on the Chief Adviser.

Later, the Chief Adviser felicitated the gallantry award recipient freedom fighters and their heirs at the Army Multipurpose Complex. 

A total of 101 people, including close relatives of seven Bir Shrestha and 93 other gallantry award recipient freedom fighters and their heirs attended the reception.

Among others, Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk e-Azam, Bir Pratik, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Defense and National Integration Development retired Lieutenant General Abdul Hafiz, National and Security Adviser to the Chief Adviser and High Representative on Rohingya Issues Dr Khalilur Rahman, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Navy, Chief of Air Force, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division and senior military and civil officials were present at the ceremony.
