
DHAKA, Nov 21, 2025 (BSS) - Three pedestrians were killed in city's Bangshal area after falling bricks from a building during an earthquake that jolt across the country today.
Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Lalbagh), said three pedestrians were seriously injured when bricks fell from the roof railing of a seven-storey building of deceased Saki Miah on KP Ghosh Street under Bangshal police station.
He said they were rushed to Mitford Hospital, where it was learned that three died there.
Mallik said the deceased could not be identified immediately.
The earthquake struck the capital city and several other parts of the country at 10:38 am today, according to Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD).
According to the preliminary report of the fire service department, an 8-storey building collapsed at Armanitola's Kasaituli. Two units from Sadarghat and Siddiqbazar fire stations went there. No damage was reported to the building. Some loose parts of plaster and some bricks fell. No casualties were found after the fire service went there.
One person was injured when a brick fell from the under-construction building in Khilgaon on a neighbouring two-storey building. The person was rescued by local people.
A fire was reported in a house in Baridhara Block-F, Road-5. Two units of Baridhara fire station were working to douse the fire. It is not known whether the fire was due to the earthquake, the report said.
In Sutrapur Swamibagh, an 8-storey building was reported to have tilted on another building. Members of Sutrapur fire station went to the spot.
A building was reported to be damaged in the Chief Adviser's Office. Satellite Fire Station inspected the spot but no damage was reported.
A 7-storey building has been reported to have collapsed on Abedkhali Road in Kalabagan. One unit from Mohammadpur Fire Station rushed to the spot. No casualties have been reported yet.
A house caught fire in Gazaria, Munshiganj. Two units from Gazaria Fire Station rushed to the spot, the preliminary report said.
