KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS) - The Great Victory Day-2025 was observed today at the Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia with due dignity and a festive atmosphere.

The observance began with the hoisting of the national flag by Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Manzurul Karim Khan Chowdhury at the High Commission premises.

Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, a discussion meeting and a cultural programme were held at the High Commission auditorium.

The programme started with recitation from the Holy Quran. A one-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971 and the July-August Mass Uprising of 2024.

Messages from the President and the Chief Adviser were read out on the occasion, while a documentary on the Liberation War of Bangladesh was screened. Patriotic songs were performed by expatriate students as well as officials and staff of the High Commission.

In his address, the High Commissioner paid deep homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971 and the July Uprising and recalled with gratitude the contributions of the valiant freedom fighters. He said Victory Day stands as a symbol of struggle, sacrifice and the dignity of national independence.

He also lauded the role of expatriate Bangladeshis in the country's economic development and their contributions during critical moments in the nation's history.

Calling upon all to work collectively to fulfill the aspirations of the martyrs and heroic fighters of 1971 and 2024, the High Commissioner urged expatriate Bangladeshis in Malaysia to take part in the upcoming national parliamentary election and referendum through postal voting.

He requested professional, social and political organisations of the expatriate community to extend cooperation in speeding up the voter registration process.

A special prayer was offered seeking eternal peace for the souls of the martyrs of the Liberation War and the July Uprising.

The programme was attended by prominent members of the Bangladeshi community in Malaysia, leaders of various political, social, cultural and professional organisations, students, journalists, and officials and staff of the Bangladesh High Commission.
