
DHAKA, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS) - The Great Victory Day was celebrated with due honour and various programmes at the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh, highlighting the role of expatriates in safeguarding democracy and advancing national progress.
The national flag was hoisted at the embassy premises in Riyadh with the rendition of the national anthem by Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Md Delwar Hossain, according to an official release received here.
The ambassador later paid floral tributes at a temporary memorial set up at the embassy, while embassy officials and staff were present.
Representatives of different organisations of the Bangladeshi community in Riyadh also paid homage by placing wreaths at the memorial.
Speaking at a discussion meeting organised on the occasion, the ambassador paid tribute to the valiant freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the country's independence and sovereignty, as well as those who were martyred during the July-August uprising against fascism.
He said expatriate Bangladeshis played a vital role not only in the birth of Bangladesh but also in its continued progress, particularly in economic development, and called for unity among expatriates to further enhance the country's image abroad.
The ambassador also recalled the role of expatriates in building global public opinion during the War of Liberation and their contributions through humanitarian and economic support.
He urged expatriate Bangladeshis to actively participate in the democratic transition by exercising their voting rights through postal ballots and to continue collective efforts from their respective positions to take the country forward on the path of prosperity.
Messages from the President, the Chief Adviser and the Foreign Adviser were read out at the programme, which was moderated by Counsellor Md Rezaul Islam.
Members of the Bangladeshi community in Riyadh, including Mofazzal Hossain Swapan, Sabur Ahmed and Dr Golam Hasnain Sohan, also spoke at the discussion meeting.
The programme concluded with prayers for the welfare of the country and the nation.
