DHAKA, Jan 14, 2026 (BSS) - Ahead of the upcoming 13th National Election, the
River Police Chief Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kusum Dewan
has stressed the importance of strengthening election-related security across
riverine and coastal areas of the country.

The directives came during the Crime Review and Welfare Meeting for November
and December 2025 held under his chairmanship.

The meeting reviewed law and order situations within the jurisdiction of the
11 regions of the River Police.

At the outset, detailed discussions were held on the progress of several
important cases under investigation related to incidents in naval and
riverine areas.

Special emphasis was given to election security action plans, including
safeguarding River Police stations and outposts, region-based operational
deployment, intensified river patrols, and emergency rescue preparedness
during the election period.

Addressing the meeting, Kusum Dewan directed the River Police to work in
close coordination with district police, other law enforcement agencies, and
allied forces to ensure peaceful polling.

He emphasized strong naval patrols, check posts, systematic searches, and
continued special combing operations, alongside ongoing anti-jatka killing
drives.

Dewan further instructed that regular crime prevention activities must
continue uninterrupted, despite the heightened election duties.

To ensure both security and welfare, the River Police chief directed Regional
Superintendents of Police to conduct regular visits to police stations and
outposts under their jurisdiction.

In his concluding remarks, Dewan urged officers to maintain professionalism,
discipline, and integrity, highlighting the critical role of the Naval Police
in protecting democratic processes in river-based constituencies and
preserving the force's reputation.

The meeting concluded with the distribution of awards in special categories
among officers of different ranks for their outstanding performance during
the reviewed period.

The meeting was attended both physically and virtually by the DIG of River
Police Md. Mizanur Rahman, Additional DIG, Superintendents of Police,
Additional Superintendents of Police, Assistant Superintendents of Police,
and Inspectors of Police.
