DHAKA, Jan 25, 2026 (BSS) - Education Adviser Prof. Dr C R Abrar today laid emphasis on introducing merit based evaluation system for flourishing the latent talent of students.     

“Ensuring proper evaluation of merit is the core foundation of a modern education system,” he said while addressing at a programme on the premises of Nagbari Hasina Chowdhury High School in Tangail district as the chief guest.

At the event, freedom fighter poet Bulbul Khan Mahbub and former headmaster of the school, Md. Afroz Hossain Siddiqui, were honored with the “Lifetime Achievement Awards.”

Defining patriotism for students, he said, “Patriotism is not merely remembering the glorious chapters of history; rather, true patriotism lies in practicing honesty, responsibility, humanity and justice as well as protesting against injustice.”

The Adviser urged the students to concentrate on their studies while also fulfilling their responsibilities towards the society.

Recalling the contributions of Dr. Ashraf Siddiqui, Prof. Abrar said, “He was a multidimensional and deeply humane personality. His tireless efforts in collecting folk literature, traveling with a bicycle and a tape recorder, remain a rare example for researchers even today. Despite receiving higher education from world-class universities, he returned to his homeland and devoted himself to the pursuit of knowledge and the expansion of education.”

Speaking about the country’s cultural and religious diversity, C R Abrar said, “Bangladesh is a country of multiple identities. The diversity of languages, cultures and ethnic communities is our strength. By embracing this diversity, we must build a humane, justice-based and progressive Bangladesh.”

At the event, he also highlighted the government’s special emphasis on curriculum development, improvement of textbook quality and co-curricular activities.

The programme was chaired by former state minister for Foreign Affairs Abul Hasan Chowdhury, while the welcome address was delivered by eminent social worker Abul Kashem Chowdhury.

Teachers and students, cultural activists, local dignitaries and senior officials from the district and upazila levels were also present at the programme.
