Bangladesh clinch inaugural SAFF Women’s Futsal title in style

DHAKA, Jan 25, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh clinched title of the inaugural SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship  thrashing their Maldives counterpart by 14-2 goals at Nonthaburi Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand today (Sunday).

In the proceeding, Bangladesh skipper Sabina Khatun once again led from the front to her side scoring four goals in the 6th, 14th, 23rd and 26th minutes while Lipi Akter also slammed hat-trick with three goals in the 17th, 18th and 31st minutes.

Krishna Rani Sarkar struck twice in the 17th and 32nd minutes  while Noushan Jahan, Sumaya Matsushima, Nilufa Yeasmin Nila, Mehenur Akter , Masura Parvin in the 18th, 24th , 30th and 32nd minutes respectively.

Maldives however took lead in the match through a suicidal goal scored by Masura Parvin early in the 4th minute.

Mariyan Moora scored the other goal for Maldives in the 40th minute.

In the one-sided affairs Sabina and co. clearly dominated the entire proceeding and took a healthy 6-1 lead in the first half. Bangladesh scored another eight goals in the second half. This is the biggest victory by any team in this tournament. 

Sabina Khatun also scored highest fourteen goals in the tournament followed by Krishna Rani who scored seven goals.

Earlier, Bangladesh made a winning start in the tournament beating India by 3-1 goals in their match.

The Sabina and Co. came from behind, played out to a 3-3 with Bhutan in their second match and blanked Nepal by 3-0 goals in their third match and beat Sri Lanka by 6-3 goals in their four match and thrashed Pakistan by 9-1 goals in their penultimate match.

On the other hand, Maldives suffered 11-1 defeat to India, 5-0 defeat to Nepal, 3-1 defeat to Pakistan, 4-2 defeat to Bhutan and conceded 7-6 defeat to Sri Lanka.
