RAB to be renamed as SIF: Home Adviser

DHAKA, Feb 3, 2026 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said the government has decided to rename the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) as the Special Intervention Force (SIF).

"We have decided to change the name of RAB in line with the people's expectations," he said while replying to a question after attending a core committee meeting on law and order at the Home Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat here.

The Home Adviser said the manner of discharging duties has changed significantly compared to the situation one and a half years ago.

Home Ministry sources said the Chief Adviser has already approved the decision to change the name of RAB and a government order in this regard will be issued soon.

They added that the force will also be provided with a new uniform.
