Indian Speaker arrives to attend Tarique Rahman’s oath ceremony

DHAKA, Feb 17, 2026 (BSS) – A high-level Indian delegation led by Lok Sabha (parliament) Speaker Om Birla arrived in Dhaka today to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-elect BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.

The delegation came here on boarding an Indian Air Force special aircraft landed at Bangladesh Air Force Base in Dhaka.  

Indian Speaker Om Birla was received at the airbase by Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Md Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md Riaz Hamidullah Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma, said Indian high commission here. 

Birla is representing New Delhi at the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh’s newly elected government led by BNP Chairman and Prime Minister-elect Tarique Rahman.

According to a press release issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs earlier, his participation underscored the deep and enduring friendship between the peoples of the two countries and reaffirms India’s commitment to shared democratic values.

India has welcomed Bangladesh’s transition to an elected government under Tarique Rahman’s leadership, expressing its intent to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the days ahead.
