New info minister asks BTV to set course to reflect people’s expectation

DHAKA, Feb 19, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has asked Bangladesh Television (BTV) to set its course to professionally reflect people’s aspirations as he visited the state-owned broadcaster’s office at Rampura, an official statement said today.

“Bangladesh Television (BTV) must play a more responsible role professionally to fulfill people’s expectations,” the statement quoted him as saying while visiting the BTV last night.

He minister asked all officials to perform their duties with sincerity to ensure responsible and professional role as he joined a brief meeting BTV executives.

Swapan said the BTV needed to improve its broadcast quality alongside equipping it with state of art apparatus.

Swapan witnessed the broadcast of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's address to the nation on BTV during his visit.

BTV’s director general Md Mahbubul Alam informed the minister about the ongoing activities of the institution while the minister assured of providing necessary cooperation for the overall development of the state-run broadcaster.
