NU pays tribute to language martyrs

DHAKA, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS) - The National University (NU) paid tribute to the martyrs of the language movement at the Central Shaheed Minar on the occasion of the great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day-2026.

As part of the day’s programme, the NU led by its Vice Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Amanullah paid tribute to the memory of the Language Movement heroes by placing floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar early today.

NU Pro-VCs Professor Md Lutfar Rahman and Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr ATM Zafrul Azam, Deans, Registrar, and Controller of Examinations of various faculties, teachers including heads of various departments, NU officials, students and employees accompanied the VC on the occasion. 

Meanwhile, floral tributes were paid to the language martyrs at the memorial tower on the NU main campus in Gazipur early today. Teachers, officials, students and employees of the National University also wore black badges on the occasion.

Besides, the Martyrs' Day and the International Mother Language Day was also observed with due dignity in the colleges and regional centers affiliated to the university.

In the morning, the national flag and the university flag were kept at half-mast and a black flag was hoisted at the university's Gazipur campus, at Dhanmondi city office in Dhaka and the regional centers to pay tribute to the language martyrs.
