GAZIPUR, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS) - The newly constructed highest flagpole of the country entitled “Chiro Unnato Bijoy Nishan” was opened at the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Academy at Safipur here.
Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (Ansar-VDP) Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud inaugurated the flagpole early this morning marking the ‘International Mother Language Day’.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the DG said Language Martyr Abdul Jabbar was a proud platoon commander of this force and his supreme sacrifice to protect the dignity of the mother tongue is a source of inspiration for every member of the force. His sacrifice reflects his patriotism towards his mother tongue.
Terming the 'Chiro Unnato Bijoy Nishan' as a symbol of our glorious history and responsible future, he said this flag will inspire every member of the force to swear and defend the country's independence and sovereignty.
The DG said the spirit of the language movement teaches us to struggle to protect our self-respect and rights.
He also urged the members of Ansar-VDP to carry out their duties with professionalism, discipline and honesty being imbued with this spirit.
The height of the flag pole installed in the academy premises is 120 feet. It is considered the highest flagpole in the country.
The length of the national flag hoisted on it is 28 feet and the width is 16.8 feet.
The 'Chiro Unnato Bijoy Nishan' upholds an eternal symbol of Bangladesh's independence, sovereignty and the great Liberation War.
Additional Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Brigadier General Mamunur Rashid, Commandant (Acting) and Deputy Director General of Ansar and VDP Academy Mohammad Nurul Absar and senior officials, among others, were also present on the occasion.
