BAGERHAT, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Environment and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam today said a coordinated operation will begin very soon to free the Sundarbans from pirates.

"The Sundarbans are our national resource. No kind of piracy or terrorism will be tolerated around this forest. A coordinated operation will begin very soon to free the Sundarbans from pirates," he said after visiting Khan Jahan Ali Mazar in Sadar upazila of the district.

The state minister said a special plan has been taken in coordination with the law enforcement agencies and related organizations. "All kinds of measures will be taken to ensure the safety of forest resources, fishermen and local residents. Above all, we are committed to protecting the Sundarbans and the environment," said Faridul Islam.

He said all necessary steps will be taken to make the Sundarbans pollution-free.

Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, former district BNP president MA Salam and BNP leaders and activists from various levels were present there.
