DINAJPUR, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS) – Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said the government is working to ensure an improved communication system to enhance the living standards of the people.

“No mother should ever have to say again, ‘My daughter’s marriage was broken due to poor road conditions’,” he told a meeting with the upazila administration at the Nawabganj Upazila Parishad auditorium here this afternoon.

The minister said the government formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working for the development of people of all classes and professions irrespective of religion and caste. Delivering visible development and ensuring services to the people is the government’s main goal, he added.

Referring to the ideals of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, he said the present government is committed to fulfilling people’s expectations. Assuming office in the month of the mother language, the government aims to ensure welfare for all regardless of party affiliation.

Regarding development in his four upazilas under his constituency, the minister said integrated development programmes would be implemented in education, health, agriculture and communication sectors.

“Strict measures would be taken against extortion, terrorism, drugs and smuggling in the area,” he said, directing law enforcement agencies to take effective steps to build a safe and livable locality.

The minister also warned that criminals, whoever they may be, would be brought to justice.

Paying tribute to the brave freedom fighters, Dr Zahid said the country achieved independence through their sacrifices, enabling him to serve as a physician and minister today. He expressed gratitude to them and sought their cooperation in the development of the area.

Chaired by Nawabganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Zillur Rahman, it was also addressed by Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Mohammad Abdul Matin, District Women and Children Affairs Officer Md Morshed Ali Khan, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Mehedi Hasan and Nawabganj Upazila BNP President Md Tarikul Islam, among others.
