BOGURA, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS)- Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has said the country can be developed by strengthening indigenous nationalism through understanding the importance of the mother tongue.

He said, Patriotism doesn’t awaken without understanding the importance of mother language, and the country does not progress.

Whenever Bangladesh has gone through a critical period, the spirit of 1952 has been reawakened. The Liberation War was instigated by the spirit of 1952, the events of August 5, 2024 were instigated by it, the people regained their right to vote, and democracy was re-established.

The Minister was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting, cultural programme, and prize distribution ceremony organised by the District Administration on the occasion of 'Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day-2026' at Bogura Shilpakala Academy Auditorium this morning.

The minister said, on Mother Language Day, we must understand the value of the mother tongue. Patriotism must be promoted and desired development must be achieved by enhancing the perfection of the language.

He further said that although many words from many foreign languages have enriched the Bengali language, the word 'Inquilab' uttered by the current Gen Z (Generation G) is not found (in that enriching context).

Criticizing the word 'Inquilab', he said that currently, Gen Z must return to the mother tongue and focus on the country's development.

The Minister said that an industrial park and industrial area have been developed on the banks of the Jamuna River in Sirajganj.

However, a Central ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) has not been established to treat the waste from the proposed factories.

If the government fails to set up a Central ETP for the industrial area, our Jamuna River will become polluted. Besides, agriculture and people will be harmed.

Industries should not pollute the water of the Jamuna, he said urging the administration to pay attention to the environment.
