DHAKA, March 1, 2026 (BSS) - Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher today said there will be no shelter for corrupt individuals in the ministry.

“Proper utilization of public taxpayers’ money must be ensured, and development projects must be completed within the stipulated time while maintaining quality standards. If any negligence in duty is proven, those responsible will face punishment,” he said.

He made these remarks at a views-exchange meeting with officials of various departments and agencies under the ministry at the conference room of the Public Works Department in Segunbagicha here.

Officials from the Public Works Department, Department of Architecture, National Housing Authority, and Urban Development Directorate were present at the meeting.

State Minister Ahammad Sohel Monzoor and Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam also attended it.

Addressing the officials, the minister further said any political pressure faced during the discharge of duties would be handled by the ministry.

“You will carry out your responsibilities within the framework of the country’s existing laws. Clearly cite the law in cases of illegality and learn to say ‘no’ when necessary. Work fearlessly and with integrity,” he said.

Referring to housing for middle- and lower-income people in Dhaka, the minister said if everyone collectively takes constructive thinking and effective initiatives for the country’s welfare, their living standards will improve.

Ahammad Sohel Monzoor urged the officials to perform their duties without fear. “We must work responsibly to build the Bangladesh of tomorrow, leaving behind the mindset of the past. There is no opportunity to embezzle the hard-earned tax money of the people without working. Our government’s position on corruption and nepotism is clear—zero tolerance,” he said.

At the meeting, heads of the respective departments presented their ongoing activities and future work plans.
