CHATTOGRAM, Mar 1, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court fined two commercial
establishments, 'Barcode Sweets and Confectionery (Kitchen)' and 'Mithai', a
total of Taka 210,000 for producing food in an unhygienic environment and
tampering.

The drive was conducted by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Masuma Akhter Kona
of the Sadar Land Office.

During the inspection, authorities found the kitchen floor damp, with broken
and dirty tiles, and food stored in a damaged refrigerator infested with
cockroaches and bedbugs. A cat was also seen inside the kitchen, indicating a
clear lack of compliance with hygiene standards by the food handlers.

The inspection found that ghee products were not properly labeled in
accordance with regulations and that purchase and sales receipts were not
being maintained.

As a result, Barcode Sweets and Confectionery (Kitchen) was fined Taka
150,000 for the violations, which was paid on the spot.

Additionally, a raid was conducted at Mithai, a sweets outlet in the
Panchlaish area, where several irregularities were uncovered, such as
unhygienic packaging, improper storage and sale of dates, and incomplete
labeling of food items. Consequently, the establishment was fined Taka 60,000
on the spot for these offenses.
