Four-day Shaheed Abu Sayeed Book Fair concludes at BRUR

RANGPUR, April 16, 2026 (BSS) - The four-day Shaheed Abu Sayeed Book Fair-2026 in memory of the pioneer of the July Revolution, Shaheed Abu Sayeed, concluded at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The university administration organized the book fair for the second time at the university's Independence Memorial Ground on the campus.
 
A total of 35 publication houses and stalls from various organizations, including Abu Sayeed Corner from Rangpur, Dhaka, and other cities of the country, participated in this four-day book fair from April 12 to 15.
 
Rangpur Divisional Commissioner (Additional Secretary) Md Shahidul Islam attended the concluding ceremony of the event, with Vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali, in the chair.

Rangpur City Corporation Administrator Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury Don and BRUR Registrar (Additional Charge) and Proctor Professor Dr Md Ferdous Rahman participated in the function as special guests.
 
Convener of the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Book Fair-2026 organizing committee, Associate Professor Dr Md Moniruzzaman delivered a welcome speech at the event.
 
The chief guest, in his speech, said, "May Allah help us be able to realize the dream that Abu Sayeed gave his life for, and to realize that dream, we have to acquire knowledge. The main tool for acquiring knowledge is books."
 
Describing the university as an open door to enter the ocean of knowledge, he urged the students to develop themselves in all fields.
 
In his concluding speech, the Vice-Chancellor said that the Book Fair is a means of creating enlightened people. It is a universal festival.
 
The interest and enthusiasm the visitors have seen among the people of North Bengal towards reading books is truly promising. 
 
He said, "We are organizing these events, like this Shaheed Abu Sayeed Book Fair-2026' out of the university's social responsibility. Students need to be involved in university activities to develop their knowledge." 
 
The more students are involved in these activities, the more their knowledge will increase. 
 
The Vice-Chancellor also said, "We want to expand the scope of this Book Fair in the future."
 
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Teesta University Md Ashraful Alam Al-Amin, Ispahani Limited Senior Divisional Manager Shahadat Hossain and Premium Fruits Managing Director Abu Sayeed Al Sagar also spoke. 
 
Book reviews, lively debates and cultural programmes were organized on the closing day.
 
Abu Sayeed, a brilliant student of the 12th batch of the Department of English of BRUR, was martyred in police firing while taking part in the indomitable anti-discrimination student movement in front of the university on July 16, 2024.
