
DHAKA, April 15, 2026 (BSS) - The body of Girish Chandra Sutradhar, a Bangladeshi expatriate who passed away while working in Bahrain, was repatriated to Bangladesh this morning.
The remains arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 8:30am via an Emirates Airlines flight.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir was present at the airport to receive the casket and formally handed it over to the deceased's younger brother, Samar Chandra Sutradhar, said a press release.
The ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Mokhtar Ahmed, along with other senior government officials.
During the handover, Muktadir emphasized that the government is committed to the welfare of expatriate workers, viewing their protection as a top priority.
To assist with immediate funeral expenses, the government provided Taka 35,000 to the family, he added.
Furthermore, the Minister announced that the family would receive an additional Taka 3 lakh in financial assistance upon the submission of a succession certificate.
The Minister also took the opportunity to urge all individuals planning to work abroad to register with the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET).
He noted that maintaining an official government record is essential for workers to receive rapid assistance and support in times of crisis.
Girish Chandra Sutradhar was a resident of the East Machpara area in Sylhet Sadar Upazila, Sylhet.
He had been employed in Bahrain until his recent death.
The Commerce Minister expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
