Absconding Narsingdi convict arrested from Dhaka airport

NARSINGDI, April 14, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested a fugitive convict who had been on the run for a long time after being sentenced in a case filed with Monohardi Police Station in Narsingdi.

The arrest was made around 2:10 am last night in the area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka during a special drive led by Sub-Inspector Al Islam of Monohardi Police Station.

The arrestee was identified as Minhaj Abdullah Bhuiyan Tanim, 30, son of Ismail Hossain Bhuiyan and a resident of Narandi area under Monohardi upazila in Narsingdi.

Police said a case had been filed against Tanim in 2024, and he was later convicted by a court. He was sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk 5,000 under Section 3 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Following the verdict, he went into hiding and remained absconding for a long time. Acting on confidential information and using information technology, law enforcers tracked his location and carried out the arrest.

Sub-Inspector Al-Amin of Monohardi Police Station said the accused has been brought to the police station and kept in custody. Further legal procedures are underway.
