DHAKA, Apr 13, 2026 (BSS) — The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced that it will soon conduct a special drive against the indiscriminate placement of construction materials on roads and footpaths across the capital.

In a statement, Acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar said it has recently been observed that government and private individuals and organizations are leaving various construction materials and other items on roads and sidewalks in different parts of Dhaka during construction work.

Such practices are causing traffic congestion and creating inconvenience for pedestrians.

The DMP noted that these actions constitute clear violations of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance 1976 (sections 67, 68, 72, and 102) and the Road Transport Act 2018 (sections 37 and 82).

The statement further said that metropolitan magistrates, along with the DMP Traffic Division, will soon carry out special drives to remove such obstructions and take legal action against those responsible.

The DMP urged city residents to comply with the law and promptly remove construction materials and other goods from roads and footpaths.

The police also sought cooperation from all concerned to help build a disciplined and orderly metropolitan city.
