DHAKA, April 13, 2026 (BSS) – A seven-day Boishakhi Fair will begin tomorrow on the premises of Bangla Academy, marking Chaitra Sangkranti, Bengali New Year (Nababarsha), and the New Year 1433 of ethnic communities, including the Chakma, Marma, Tripura and Garo.

The Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and Bangla Academy are jointly organising the fair, which will remain open to all from 10 am to 7 pm daily. A wide range of products, including agricultural goods and handicrafts, will be available at the venue.

Cultural Affairs Minister Nityai Roy Chowdhury will inaugurate the fair at around 11:30 am as the chief guest. The event, to be chaired by the Director General of Bangla Academy, will also be attended by Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir as the special guest.

Director General of Bangla Academy Mohammad Azam said the Boishakhi Fair is essentially a universal folk festival. Like every year, it has been organised to make the New Year more festive. While books are usually sold at a 30 percent commission at Bangla Academy, they will be offered at a 70 percent commission during the fair to encourage reading.

BSCIC Chairman Md Saiful Islam said that BSCIC organises fairs throughout the year at different locations, including Motijheel, to promote entrepreneurs, provide training, facilitate industrial registration, offer credit support, and expand the market for locally-produced goods. A total of 160 stalls have been allocated at the fair, including seven for leather goods, six for Jamdani products, four for Nakshi Kantha, 44 for textiles, five for Shataranji, and two for Manipuri sarees.
