Tanti Dal leader stabbed to death in Khulna

KHULNA, April 12, 2026 (BSS) - A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in Khulna city late Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Md. Sonamia, convener of the organization's Ward No. 10 unit in Khalishpur area. He was the son of Jabbar Sardar of Nayabati village under Khalishpur Police Station.

According to police and local sources, the incident took place around 12:05 am in the Nayabati area. Sona Mia, who ran a small variety store, was closing his shop when he was attacked by three youths riding a motorcycle.

Locals said the attackers struck him with sharp weapons, leaving him injured. He initially took shelter in a nearby house, but the assailants followed him and attacked him again.

He was later rescued and taken to a local clinic before being shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Sub-Inspector Palash Kumar Roy of Khalishpur Police Station said police were informed about the incident around 12:30 am. An inquest report was prepared and the body sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Witnesses said two of the attackers were wearing masks while another wore a helmet. The assailants fled immediately after the attack.

Officer-in-Charge Md. Touhiduzzaman of Khalishpur Police Station confirmed the incident, saying legal procedures were underway and efforts were being made to identify and arrest those involved.

Khulna Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Sudarshan Kumar Roy said multiple teams had been deployed to investigate the killing and determine its motive.
