BANDARBAN, April 12, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered two pistols and 42 rounds of live ammunition during a special drive in Naikhongchhari upazila of the district, detaining two individuals including a Rohingya youth.

The operation was carried out on Saturday evening by members of Naikhongchhari Battalion (11 BGB) in the Baganghona area under Sadar Union, acting on intelligence provided by the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), said a BGB press release.

During the drive, BGB personnel arrested Md. Faruk, 21, a Rohingya youth and resident of Camp-13, Block F-1. 

He was found carrying a 9mm TT caliber pistol, reportedly of Yugoslav origin, along with another unidentified pistol and 42 rounds of ammunition.

Following initial interrogation, another suspect, Md. Nurul Alam, 30, was apprehended from Chakdala Bazar area. He is a resident of Pradhanjhiri area under Naikshongchhari Sadar Union.

Preliminary questioning revealed that the two were allegedly operating under instructions from an individual identified as Ayatullah. 

They were reportedly planning to hand over the firearms to another party at a local establishment named "Cafe-13" in exchange for Tk 20,000.

The detainees, along with the recovered firearms and ammunition, are currently in BGB custody for further interrogation. Legal action against those involved is underway.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Faizul Kabir, commander of Naikhongchhari Battalion (11 BGB), said BGB has intensified patrols and intelligence surveillance to prevent illegal arms smuggling and ensure stability in border areas.

He added that such operations will continue as part of the force's ongoing efforts to curb arms trafficking, drug smuggling and other cross-border crimes.
