
RANGPUR, April 13, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced to death Parvez
Rahman Palash, 26, the accused in the stabbing murder case of Assistant Sub-
Inspector (ASI) Piarul Islam.
Judge Marzia Khatun of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of
Rangpur announced the verdict on Monday afternoon.
Palash is the son of Zahidul Islam of the Telepara area under Bahar Kachna in
Rangpur city.
Palash was present in the court when the verdict was announced.
Additional Pubblic Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Abdul Hadi Belal, the state's
lawyer, said police arrested drug addict Palash with ganja in the Sahebganj
area under Haragach Police Station in Rangpur metropolis on September 25,
2021.
At that time, Palash hit ASI Piarul on the chest with a sharp knife he had.
He [Piarul] was seriously injured and was admitted to Rangpur Medical College
and Hospital.
Later, he died while undergoing treatment there.
In this incident, police filed two separate cases against Palash under the
murder and narcotics laws.
Later, police arrested accused Parvez Rahman Palash.
After examining 18 witnesses and other evidence in the case and after
arguments from both sides, Judge Marzia Khatun sentenced accused Parvez
Rahman Palash to death and fined him Taka 10,000.
In addition, the court sentenced Palash to five years of rigorous
imprisonment as he was found guilty in two other sections.
Advocate Abdul Hadi Belal said that the accused has been given the death
penalty in the police murder case. The family of the deceased expressed their
satisfaction after getting justice.
The defendant's lawyer, Advocate Abdullah Al Mamun, said the defendant will
go to the high court to seek justice in this verdict.
