RANGAMATI, April 13, 2026 (BSS) - Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan today expressed optimism that a new and prosperous Bangladesh can be built through the unity of all ethnic communities.

He made the remarks while talking to journalists after attending a cultural exchange programme at the residence of Rangamati Zila Parishad Chairman Kajol Talukdar.

The event was organised on the occasion of the traditional 'Biju-Sangrai-Boisu-Bisu-Bihu-Changkran-Changlan' festival and the Bengali New Year 1433.

The minister extended his greetings to the people of the CHT and the country on the occasion of the Bengali New Year and Biju festival.

Dipen Dewan said the diverse social festivals of the hill tracts are not merely celebrations but an inseparable part of the region's heritage, customs and cultural identity.

He noted that 11 indigenous ethnic groups are celebrating their traditional festivals here with great enthusiasm, but expressed concern that many traditions are gradually fading.

Emphasising the need to preserve cultural roots, the minister said protecting and reviving these traditions is now a timely necessity. He called upon the people of the hill tracts to strengthen cultural harmony and ensure that these traditions are passed on to future generations.

The CHT Affairs Minister also said the government remains committed to the development of marginalised communities across the country and to safeguarding their unique cultural identities.

Referring to the broader political context, he said the democratically elected government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, will play a historic role in building a prosperous nation. He expressed hope that the traditional festivals of all communities in the hill tracts would receive full state recognition under their respective names.

He urged everyone to support the prime minister in building a prosperous nation and emphasised patriotism under the slogan 'Bangladesh First.'

Rangamati Zila Parishad Chairman Kazal Talukdar chaired the event. Deputy Commissioner of Rangamati Nazma Ashrafi, along with senior government officials, attended the function.
