RAJSHAHI, Apr 16, 2026 (BSS) – A poor but meritorious student, Rafiu Islam Fahim from the Sipaipara area of Rajshahi city, has received support from Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kazi Shahidul Islam.

Despite financial hardship, Fahim, who dreams of becoming a doctor, recently secured admission to the MBBS course at Shaheed M. Mansur Ali Government Medical College in Sirajganj.

Fahim’s father, Anwarul Islam, suffers from paralysis and runs a small business. The family survives on his meagre income. As a result, arranging the initial admission fees, expensive textbooks and other necessary educational materials became extremely difficult for them.

In this situation, Fahim applied to the Deputy Commissioner for financial assistance.

In response to the application, DC Kazi Shahidul Islam called him to his office this afternoon. During the meeting, he gifted Fahim nine books essential for medical education.

He also assured that the district administration would continue to provide maximum support to meritorious students pursuing higher education in the future.

When asked about the initiative, DC Kazi Shahidul Islam said, “Standing by such students is our moral and social responsibility. Fahim has earned admission to medical college through his merit and hard work, which is undoubtedly commendable. We want to ensure that he does not fall behind in his studies because of financial obstacles.”

“If he remains steadfast in his goal, he will one day be able to make a significant contribution to society as a skilled and compassionate doctor,” he added.

Overwhelmed after receiving the support, Fahim said, “This support has inspired me anew. I now believe even more firmly that my dream will come true one day. In future, I want to stand by helpless and poor people as a humane and skilled doctor. I am sincerely grateful to the District Administrator for his compassion and cooperation.”

According to locals, such humanitarian initiatives serve as a beacon of hope for underprivileged but meritorious students and set a positive example in society.
