Sufficient allocation for science in next budget: Minu

RAJSHAHI, May 17, 2026 (BSS)- Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has said sufficient allocation will be given for science studies and development in the upcoming budget.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the 47th National Science and Technology Week, here today.

The minister also inaugurated the divisional level Science Fair, 10th National Science Olympiad, and 10th Science Quiz Competition-2026.

The event was organized by the Rajshahi Divisional Administration under the supervision of the National Museum of Science and Technology at Rajshahi College auditorium.

A total of 48 teams from various colleges in the division participated in the Science Olympiad. 

The minister inaugurated the fair by releasing balloons and festoons and visited various stalls.
 
Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr. A. N. M. Bazlur Rashid presided over the inaugural function while local parliament member Nazrul Islam and Zila Parishad Administrator Ershad Ali Isha were present as special guests.

Referring to the canal excavation program, the land minister said, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman used to say canals must be excavated to resolve the water scarcity due to the adverse effects of Farakka. He replicated IRRI rice irrigation in Bangladesh from Indonesia.
 
Bangladeshi scientists have further scientifically improved this rice and brought about a revolution in production.
