DINAJPUR, June 4, 2026 (BSS) – Dinajpur today recorded the country's highest temperature 38.6 degrees Celsius at 3 pm, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

In a message sent at 3:30 pm today, acting officer of the Dinajpur Meteorological Office Md. Tofazzal Hossain confirmed the weather data recorded at 3:00 pm in the district.

According to the sources, Dinajpur had also recorded the highest temperature in the country yesterday (Wednesday) at 38.5 degrees Celsius.

Meteorological office sources said a similar heat wave has been sweeping across Dinajpur district for the last four consecutive days. 

The intense sunshine and humid heat have caused severe discomfort in public life. Daily activities have been significantly disrupted due to the extreme heat. 

Working-class people, children and elderly citizens are facing the greatest hardship. Labourers, day workers, van drivers and rickshaw pullers are struggling to carry out their work in the fields and on the roads, making daily life increasingly difficult for them.

Earlier, on June 1 and June 2, the weather office recorded 37.2 degrees Celsius and 37.5 degrees Celsius temperature in the district consecutively.

Due to the ongoing heat wave, pedestrian and vehicular movement on roads declines significantly after noon across the district. In many areas, roads remain nearly deserted from noon until evening. Melting of bitumen on paved roads has also been seen in several places because of the intense heat.

The extreme weather is causing various health complications, including heatstroke, dehydration, dizziness and fatigue among people of different age groups, particularly children and the elderly. 

Meanwhile, Dinajpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Asif Ferdous confirmed that the incidence of diarrhoea is increasing in the district due to the severe heat.

He said, "On behalf of the district health department, we are advising people of all levels to drink sufficient water, use safe drinking water and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun."

Regarding the situation, Acting Officer of the Dinajpur Meteorological Office Tofazzal Hossain said a mild heat wave is currently sweeping across Dinajpur and several neighbouring districts and may continue until Friday (June 5). 

“However, rainfall is likely to increase in the region from June 6. Although the possibility of rain remains low before then, light rainfall may occur at one or two places in the Rangpur Division,” he said.
