DHAKA, June 24, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed actor Md Neyamot Ullah Bhuiyan, popularly known as Zaher Alvi, on a two-day remand a case filed over allegations that he instigated his wife, Afra Ibnat Ikra, to commit suicide.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Al Beruni Mir passed the order this afternoon as police on June 21 filed a plea to place the accused on a seven-day remand, said Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam, an officer of the court's General Registration Branch for Pallabi Police Station

Earlier on June 18, Alvi was sent to jail by the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin, as the actor surrendered before the court and pleaded for bail.

Ikra, 33, a social media influencer, was found hanging at their residence in Mirpur DOHS on February 28, 2026. She was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital, where the attending doctors declared her dead.

Ikra's father, Kabir Hayat Khan, filed the case the following day with Pallabi Police Station against Alvi and his mother alleging that they had instigated Ikra to commit suicide.

The complainant also alleged that family disputes and mental abuse had driven Ikra to take her own life.
