Families of Sadarghat launch accident victims receive financial assistance

DHAKA, June 13, 2026 (BSS) - The Ministry of Shipping has provided financial assistance to the families of Sadarghat launch accident victims.

State Minister for Shipping Md Razib Ahsan today handed over the financial assistance to the family members of the deceased through separate cheques at Mehendiganj upazila in Barishal, said a PID release.

Sohel and Miraj, residents of Mehendiganj upazila in Barishal district, were killed in the tragic launch accident that occurred at Sadarghat while travelling to Barishal during the last Eid-ul-Fitr.

On behalf of the Trustee Board of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), cheques worth Tk 5 lakh each were handed over to the two families. 

It was also announced on the occasion that the affected families would receive an additional Tk 25 lakh in financial assistance.

The state minister expressed deep sympathy to the family members of the deceased and assured them of the government's continued support.

He said the government has been working relentlessly to ensure the safety of passengers on waterways and would continue taking necessary measures to prevent accidents.

BIWTA Officials and local public representatives and political leaders were present at the cheque handover ceremony.
