Floods, droughts would immensely be removed with digging of canals: Dulu

SATURIA, (Manikganj), June 24, 2026 (BSS)- Minister of Disaster Management and Relief Asadul Habib Dulu today said that the canal excavation is ushering a new hope among the people of  the rural communities.
 
“If the canals are excavated properly, prosperity will come and floods and droughts will be reduced,” he said this while addressing a public gathering after inspecting the re-excavation work of the Chandrakhali Canal here this noon.

The minister said that the citizens are voluntarily participating in this initiative. Water from the canals will be used for rice cultivation during the dry season, fish cultivation will take place in the canals, and trees will be planted along banks of the canal. 

Dulu said that proper drainage system through the canals will help to eliminate the water logging in the area. 
 
Earlier, the minister visited the canal excavation work at Konabari Canal at Shibalaya upazila and planted a palm tree sapling on the bank of canal. He later exchanged views with local journalists.

Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Afroza Khanam Rita and lawmaker S A Jinnah Kabir also spoke on the occasion.  

Among others, Deputy Commissioner   of Manikganj Nazmun Ara Sultana, along with officials from the district and upazila administrations and local political leaders were also present.
