DHAKA, July 14, 2026 (BSS) - British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke has wished the Bangladesh contingent success at the Commonwealth Games 2026, saying the event embodies the shared values of fairness, respect and opportunity among Commonwealth nations.

The British High Commission in Dhaka hosted a send-off reception for Bangladeshi athletes who are set to compete in the Commonwealth Games 2026, to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, later this month, said the British high commission here today.

Hosting the reception, High Commissioner Sarah Cooke said the Commonwealth Games are "something truly special" as they bring together a diverse family of nations united by shared values.

"As this fantastic group of athletes from Bangladesh departs for Glasgow in a few days, I wish them the very best," she said.
The High Commission said the United Kingdom is proud to host the Commonwealth Games once again, with Glasgow staging the event for the third time in the UK since 2014, reaffirming Britain's commitment to the Commonwealth and the power of sport to unite, inspire and drive positive change.

The reception recognised the dedication, hard work and achievements of the Bangladeshi athletes and conveyed best wishes as they prepare to represent the country on the international stage.

Bangladesh will compete in four disciplines—athletics, boxing, artistic gymnastics and swimming.

The event also underscored the longstanding partnership between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom while celebrating the values of the modern Commonwealth.
