RANGPUR, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Prof Dr Md Showkat Ali has said that it is very important to ensure the safe use of digital technology in this era of the fourth industrial revolution.
 
"Students of this present era should not only be proficient in using technology, but also be aware of cyber security and digital safeguarding, data privacy and digital ethics," he said. 
 
The VC said this as the chief guest at a daylong training workshop on 'Cyber Security and Digital Safeguarding' organised on the third floor of the university cafeteria by the University's Scholarship Support Office on Monday afternoon.
 
The training workshop was arranged in collaboration with KiK and GIZ with the aim of ensuring information security in the digital age and increasing awareness in dealing with cyber risks.
 
The Commissioner of Police of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Mohammad Abdul Mabud was present as the guest of honor and keynote speaker. 
 
The Proctor and Registrar (Additional Charge) of the university Prof Dr Md Ferdous Rahman was present as special guest.
 
The RpMP Commissioner discussed in detail the different types of cybercrimes, prevention of online fraud, personal information protection and strong 
password management, safe use of social media, digital safeguarding and effective strategies to deal with cyber risks. 
 
In the speech, the VC said that such training will play an important role in developing students as responsible digital citizens. 
 
"The university will continue such activities in the future to develop the skills of students and create a safe digital environment," he added. 
 
Students from different departments of the university participated in the workshop.
 
At the end of the event, the participants pledged to increase awareness about cyber security and create a safe digital environment.
